Unit 8 - Review
Hello,
Last week's loving-kindness affirmation exercise, and this week's exercise involving the contemplation of memories specifically related to feeling happiness, wholeness, are my favorite meditations.  The loving-kindness affirmative prayer was done for the whole ten minutes, and has since been repeated on several occasions in brief spurts to realign my mind becoming negative.  This has been especially helpful when a person or situation elicits negative mental chatter and emotions.  The memory exercise was not completed as suggested, but was done in a condensed manner while reading the text, which is described in this week's discussion board. Good memories marred by some negative aspects can potentially be cherished once again, or for the first time, by this exercise.  Because these meditations resonate with me, it's more likely they will be done on a regular basis, as the comfort provided will build tolerance for the practices that are difficult for me.

  1. Hi Misti,

Great post this week! I agree with you these exercises have really taught me how to keep the negative chatter at bay. I have a tendency to focus on that kind of stuff and it just keeps churning and churning inside of me to the point I get upset. The loving-kindness exercise allowed me to stop focusing on me and the silly little things that I dwell on. I also wanted to commend you on your personal narrative in your profile. I too have been where you are with exception of an autistic child and I cannot imagine what that is like on a daily basis watching your child have difficulty. My prayers go out to you and your family. I self medicated with food for years because of an unhappy marriage and I managed to pack on 80 pounds. That realization started my transformation over 10 years ago. That and my mother's breast cancer is what brought me to the field of nutrition! I have never looked back, lost the weight, kept it off and am now a personal trainer and in March a graduate in Nutrition! We all have a journey and it sounds like you are on the right path ...prayers for continued success my friend!

    1. Thank you for the encouragement, Tracy! That negative churning is so detrimental to our health, but is so easy to get entangled in. Having learned that loving-kindness affirmation has been so helpful. The spiritual center I attend has a philosophy much like everything we are learning here, so I am familiar with affirmation and affirmative prayer, and know that they work. I feel that there is something special about this one, and intend to use it always. It sounds like you have been through quite a bit, and your determination and success is inspiring. All my best is sent to you, Tracy!

  3. Hello Misti:
Is seem to me that this class has be life changing for you. I know it has been for me. These exercises have allowed me to deal with issues I had buried since my teenager years. I hope that you continue to use these exercises after this class. I know I will.
    ~Thanks Roxanne
